In April of 2014, my five year old daughter, Susanna, suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. She was sleeping in her car seat on the way home from visiting her grandmother, and never even said she had a headache. We lost her the following afternoon.
When Susanna was three years old, she came to me in one of her many princess gowns. She said, “Mommy, I need lips and hair. I am going to the Golden Ball.” I try, every day, to figure out where she is. I imagine somewhere grand and spectacular, a celestial ballroom.
This is for you, Susanna, you changed everything forever.
